ABOUT ZIMBABWE

Zimbabwe is a landlocked country located on a high plateau in the southern part of Africa, between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers, covering 390,580 km². It shares borders with South Africa to the south, Botswana to the southwest, Zambia to the northwest, Mozambique to the east and north, and Namibia to the Caprivi Strip.

Zimbabwe has three commonly used languages, with English being the official language predominantly used for business. Shona is the most widely spoken native language, while Ndebele is spoken mainly in the western part of the country. Approximately two thirds of the estimated 13 million population are Shona, 15% are Ndebele, and a small minority consists of other ethnicities.

CLIMATE

Zimbabwe is a land of remarkable beauty and diversity, ranging from low lying semi desert areas to lush highlands strewn with forests and lakes. The country is divided into three broad climatic regions: the central plateau, which covers most of the country and is generally temperate; the low lying areas, such as the Zambezi Valley, which are significantly warmer and drier with hot summers; and the Eastern Highlands, which are cooler with much higher year round rainfall.

The summer rains dominate the seasons, usually lasting from November through April, bringing relief after months of dry weather.
